Welcome to Select Breakdown


YOUR policy administered by US. Select breakdown is an internet based service. 

You can contact us any time at mail@selectbreakdown.co.uk and we will aim to respond to your communication as quickly as possible.

When you call this number we request that you provide us with the following information, in order for us to assist you:

  • Policy number

  • Registration number

  • Name

  • Exact location

    When you have supplied us with this information we will contact one of our vehicle recovery operators and ask them to attend to your vehicle as quickly as possible.

    Your policy

    You are covered for the level of cover that you have selected and listed on your schedule of cover, which is attached to this document.

    Your cover

    Your policy covers you for electrical and mechanical faults that immobilise your vehicle within the UK. Your vehicle must be immobilised by an electrical or mechanical fault for your cover to be effected.

    Policy term

    Your policy is valid for 12 months as per the dates listed on the attached schedule.

    Personal details

    Should any of your personal information change during the term of the policy please notify us immediately. If you have selected to have home assistance included in your policy we will need confirmation of your new address prior to attending any breakdown.

    Your vehicle

    You are only covered for the vehicle that you have registered with us when you took out your policy. You can change your vehicle details with us at any time, subject to a 48 hour exclusion period. All changes of vehicles must be permanent; your policy does not allow temporary changes.

    Claims

    In order to ensure your cover remains in force, we may request you to send us proof of repair.

    Summary of cover

    All selected levels of cover include the following:

    • Roadside Assistance.

    • Cover for any driver that is using the registered vehicle, provided that the person has received permission from you first and is legally able to drive the vehicle.

    • Cover for cars, vans (not used for commercial purposes), and motorcycles up to 3.5 tonnes (excluding any vehicles with living accommodation)

    • Recovery of a caravan or trailer attached to your vehicle at the time of the breakdown up to 7.6 metres in length.

    • Up to 1 hour's roadside assistance.

    • Up to a maximum of 5 call outs a year.

    • Wheel changes (providing that the driver has a serviceable spare tyre and wheel and is able to provide a manufacturers key to remove any locking wheel nuts).



    What is not covered

    Please read this section carefully so that you are fully aware of what you are not covered for.
    You are not covered for any of the following:


    1. Any claim arising in the first 48 hours from the date of inception.

    2. Labour charges in excess of one hour for roadside assistance.

    3. Cost of replacement parts, fuel or materials used in a repair.

    4. Toll charges, ferry charges, parking charges, traffic congestion charges.

    5. Storage charges incurred during or after the use of our services.

    6. More than 5 call outs during the period of cover.

    7. Running out of fuel, wrong fuel in vehicle, loss of keys, broken glass.

    8. Any vehicle not able to provide a serviceable spare tyre for wheel changes (including vehicles that do not come with a spare tyre as a standard fitment).

    9. Keys locked in vehicle, damaged keys, key fob faults.

    10. Any campervan or any vehicle providing living accommodation.

    11. Vehicles immersed in, or immobilised from being immersed in, mud, snow, sand or water, or break down as a result of driving through water.

    12. Vehicles that require a repair at a specialist garage.

    13. A second use of our services if no garage repair has been made to correct the initial fault.

    14. Faults with a caravan or trailer (that may or may not immobilise the caravan/trailer) when the vehicle is not immobilised.

    You, Your
    The person who has taken out the policy.
    Vehicle
    The vehicle owned by you and declared to us.
    Territorial limits
    The United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) and the European Union (European cover Only)
    Breakdown
    Breakdown means an electrical or mechanical failure or a road traffic accident or damage caused by vandalism, fire, theft or attempted theft which renders the vehicle completely immobilised. In the event of a non fault road traffic accident you will be required to pay for the assistance, and submit to your insurer as a third party claim.
    Vehicle Recovery Operators
    First Call GB Ltd dedicated service engineers. This may be supplemented by the use of independent agents.

    Terms & Conditions

    1. The Policy Holder, the Driver of the Vehicle and the Vehicle itself must meet the requirements of the policy at all time in order for the policy to remain valid.

    2. The Vehicle must be attended by at least one person when our Recovery Operator arrives at the scene of the breakdown. This person must be authorised to decide what action is to be taken with regards to the recovery of the vehicle by the policy holder. If there is no person with the vehicle when our Recovery Operator arrives at the scene of the breakdown then we have the right to leave the scene of the breakdown. This will count as a callout under the policy.

    3. The Vehicle must remain road legal at all times, including having valid road tax and a valid MOT. SORN vehicles are not covered under the policy.

    4. The Vehicle must have received a Service at a VAT registered garage with the last year prior to any breakdown. Proof of this Service may be requested at any time and must be produced for the policy to remain valid.

    5. The Driver of the Vehicle at the time of any Breakdown must be legally capable of driving the Vehicle.

    6. Vehicles that contain living accommodation, that are used for any commercial or business purposes, or that exceed 3500 kg gross weight, 5.5 metres in length or 2.3 metres in width are excluded from cover under this policy. A caravan or trailer attached to the vehicle exceeding 7.6 metres in length is excluded from any recovery or assistance.

    7. Should we at any time suspect that a Breakdown may not be covered by the Policy then we will request the Breakdown to be paid for and all charges will be reimbursed once any documentation requested to validate the claim is received and verified that it confirms that the breakdown meets the requirements of the Policy. If this requested charge is not paid then assistance cannot be provided.

    8. If you wish to cancel the policy, you may do so at any time. If the time of the policy's cancellation is within 14 days of the date that the policy was submitted for application or the date of inception (whichever is sooner) then you are entitled to a full refund less an administration fee. No refund is available if the policy is cancelled after this time.

    9. We reserve the right to cancel the policy at any time by giving you 14 days notice in writing to the Home Address registered with us under the policy. If no claims have been made then you will receive a pro-rata refund for the time on cover remaining, less an administration fee.

    Roadside Cover

      If you have our Roadside Policy, you are covered for the following:

    • If you break down anywhere in the Territorial Limits then we will attend your vehicle and attempt to repair your vehicle at the roadside. If the location of the vehicle is your Home Address or within one mile of your Home Address then you will be liable for a £40.00 excess which must be paid to us before we will attend your Vehicle.

    • If the fault cannot be repaired at the roadside then we will recover the vehicle, the driver and up to 4 passengers to either your Destination, your Home Address, or the nearest garage able to effect repair, whichever option is closest to where you have broken down. The maximum distance that the vehicle will be recovered is 20 miles from the scene of the breakdown.

    • If the vehicle is recovered to a garage that cannot repair the vehicle the same day and the original scene of the breakdown is over 50 miles from your Home Address then we will reimburse you up to £40.00 per claim as a contribution towards car hire, hotel accommodation, or public transport (Subject to sight of relevant and valid receipts).



    Homestart / European Cover

      If you have our Homestart or our European Policy, you are covered for the following:

    • If you break down anywhere in the Territorial Limits then we will attend your vehicle and attempt to repair your vehicle at the roadside.

    • If the fault cannot be repaired at the roadside then we will recover the vehicle, the driver and up to 4 passengers to either your Destination, your Home Address, or the nearest garage able to effect repair, whichever option is closest to where you have broken down.

    • If the vehicle is recovered to a garage that cannot repair the vehicle the same day and the original scene of the breakdown is over 50 miles from your Home Address then we will reimburse you up to £40.00 per claim as a contribution towards car hire, hotel accommodation, or public transport (Subject to sight of relevant and valid receipts).



    Important Notes


    • If the assistance that you have selected does not suit your personal requirements at the time of the breakdown then you may request alternative assistance to be arranged for you at your own cost.

    • We do not accept any responsibility for the transportation of pet animals or livestock within the vehicle at the time of the breakdown.

    • A garage or mechanic undertaking repair work on your instruction will be acting as your agent for such repair work.

    • If requested, you must provide evidence of servicing of your vehicle or receipts for replacement parts.

    • Recovery cannot be used as a reason for avoiding repair costs.

    • We reserve the right not to offer renewal of cover.

    • We reserve the right to refuse service and cancel membership without any refund to anyone who behaves in a threatening or abusive manner to our employees.

    • In the event of a vehicle breakdown we will offer recovery of any caravan or trailer (within the specified restrictions). The caravan/trailer is not covered for breakdown within the terms and condition of this policy.

    • No claim will exceed the current market value of the vehicle at the time of the breakdown.

    • Any excess charge for assistance at the Home Address or payment for assistance not covered under the Policy is non-refundable once payment details have been taken and assistance requested.

    • This document is subject to English law unless otherwise agreed in writing.


    General Exclusion

    Select breakdown will not cover the following: -

    1. Vehicles that have not been regularly serviced or breakdown as a result of inadequate repair, unsuccessful DIY or any recurring claim where no remedial action has been taken to correct the fault since we last attended your vehicle. Garage attention must always be sought after experiencing a breakdown and proof of repair obtained.

    2. Vehicles being used (or that have been modified for use) in motor racing, rallies, speed or endurance tests; hire or reward (including courtesy vehicles) or over 3.5 tonnes gross laden weight; mechanically modified vehicles requiring specialist repairers.

    3. Any liability or consequential loss arising from any act performed in the execution of the Breakdown services provided.

    4. Vehicles not in a roadworthy condition immediately prior to any breakdown.

    5. Claims arising from loss or damage to contents of or within your vehicle.

    6. Vehicles immersed in mud, snow, sand or water or any fault occurring or being immobilised as a result of contact with mud, snow, sand or water.

    7. Any vehicle with living accommodation.

    8. Any claim that could be recoverable from any insurance policy indemnity or warranty.

    9. Any fines or penalties imposed by courts.

    10. Any charges incurred prior to notification of Breakdown and our approved repairer attending.

    11. The cost of any parts, components, lubricants or materials, food, drinks, telephone calls, petrol, oil or any other incidental expenses.

    12. Any claim where Select Breakdown has not been notified at least 48 hours previously of a change of vehicle.

    13. Any charges incurred resulting from you breaking down in a location that rescuing the vehicle would be unlawful.

    14. Any cost of any specialist recovery equipment or service charges needed (as defined by the recovery operator in attendance of your breakdown).

    15. Breakdowns where your vehicle is not accessible or cannot be transported safely, legally and without hindrance using a standard transporter or trailer.

    16. Any toll charges, ferry charges parking charges or traffic congestion charges.

    17. Any costs recoverable elsewhere.

    18. A second callout when a temporary repair was earlier carried out.

    19. Any claim for assistance while money is owed to us by the policy holder.

    20. Any claims for private hire vehicles i.e. taxis.

    21. Breakdowns caused by your vehicle running out of fuel or where assistance cannot be affected because the vehicle does not have a serviceable spare tyre and wheel.

    22. Any claim where a vehicle has not been repaired, or is disposed of.

    23. Claims directly or indirectly caused by or contributed to or arising from ionising radiations or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste from the burning of nuclear fuel; or the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other hazardous properties of any explosive nuclear assembly or nuclear part of it; war, invasion, terrorism, foreign enemy hostilities ( whether war is declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, military force or coup; or pressure waves caused by aircraft or any other airborne devices travelling at sonic or supersonic speeds.

    . It is a provider of breakdown assistance services that is exempt from authorisation under the Financial Services and Marketing Act 2000. 

    Data Protection

    The data supplied by you will only be used by us and carefully selected associated companies for related products and services as well as the purposes of processing your membership policy, including underwriting, administration, and handling any claim which may arise. The data supplied will not be passed to any other parties other than those which we have mentioned herein. It is important that the data you have supplied is kept up to date. You should therefore notify us promptly of any changes. You are entitled upon the payment of an administration fee to inspect the personal data which we are holding about you.     .We may respond to enquiries by the police concerning your policy in the normal course of their investigations. Where it is necessary to administer your policy effectively, or to protect your interests, we may disclose the data you have supplied to other third parties such as motor garages, engineers, repairers, insurers etc. We may monitor and record telephone calls for service and staff training purposes.
